How to make the text bigger on your phone
Learn how to increase the text size on your iPhone so everything is easier to read.
What you will learn
In this guide, you will learn how to make the text on your iPhone bigger and easier to read. If you find yourself squinting at small words on your screen, this simple change will make a real difference. You can adjust the size until it feels comfortable for your eyes.
What you need
- An iPhone (any model)
- About two minutes of your time
The steps
Step 1: Open Settings
Go to your home screen and tap the Settings app. It has a grey icon that looks like gears. This is where you control how your iPhone looks and behaves.
Step 2: Go to Display & Brightness
Scroll down the Settings list and tap Display & Brightness. This section lets you control how your screen looks, including the size of the text.
Step 3: Tap Text Size
Inside Display & Brightness, you will see an option called Text Size. Tap on it. You will see a slider at the bottom of the screen with a small letter “A” on the left and a large letter “A” on the right.
Step 4: Drag the slider to make text bigger
Put your finger on the slider and drag it to the right to make the text bigger. As you drag, you will see the sample text above the slider change size in real time. Stop when the size feels comfortable and easy to read. The change is applied immediately — you do not need to press a save button.
Helpful tips
- Bold Text makes words clearer: Go back to Display & Brightness and turn on Bold Text. This makes all the words on your screen thicker and easier to read, which helps a lot alongside bigger text.
- You can always change it back: If the text becomes too big, just go back to the same slider and drag it to the left to make it smaller again.
- Try it out: After changing the size, open a few apps like Messages or Safari to see how the new size looks in everyday use.

Frequently asked questions
Will this change text in all apps?
Most apps will respect your text size choice and adjust automatically. Some older apps may not change. If a specific app still shows small text, check that app's own settings for a text size or zoom option.
What if text is still too small?
If the text size slider is already at the maximum and you still need larger text, go to Settings, then Accessibility, then Display and Text Size, and turn on Larger Accessibility Sizes. This unlocks even bigger text options. You can also try the Zoom feature in Accessibility, which magnifies the entire screen.
