How to add an email account to your phone

Set up your Gmail, Yahoo, or Outlook email on your iPhone or Android phone so you can read and send emails from anywhere.

Step 1: Open Settings

Tap Settings on your home screen.

Step 2: Find the email section

On iPhone: Tap Mail, then Accounts, then Add Account.

On Android: Tap Accounts (or Passwords & Accounts), then Add Account, then Email or your email provider’s name.

Step 3: Choose your email provider

You’ll see a list of providers: Google (Gmail), Microsoft (Outlook, Hotmail), Yahoo, and others. Tap the one that matches your email. If yours isn’t listed, tap Other.

Step 4: Enter your email and password

Type your full email address (for example, yourname@gmail.com) and tap Next. Then type your password and tap Sign In. Your phone will verify the account.

Step 5: Choose what to sync

You’ll be asked what to sync: Mail, Contacts, Calendars. At minimum, turn on Mail. Tap Save or Done. Your email will now appear in the Mail app (iPhone) or Gmail app (Android).

Frequently asked questions

Can I have more than one email account on my phone?

Yes. You can add multiple email accounts. Repeat these steps for each account you want to add.

Do I need to know my password?

Yes. You'll need the email address and password for the account you're adding. If you've forgotten it, reset your password first on the email provider's website.

Will my emails be deleted from the computer?

No. Adding email to your phone doesn't affect your computer. Your emails stay in both places.
