How to Create a Group Chat on WhatsApp

What You Will Need

• Your iPhone or Android phone
• WhatsApp installed
• The people you want to add must be in your Contacts and have WhatsApp

Step 1: Open WhatsApp

Tap the WhatsApp icon to open the app.

Step 2: Start a New Group

• On iPhone: Tap Chats at the bottom, then tap New Group (or tap the pencil icon and then New Group)
• On Android: Tap the three dots in the top-right corner, then tap New Group

Step 3: Add Members

You will see your contacts list. Tap the names of the people you want to add to the group.

A blue checkmark will appear next to each selected person. You can add as many people as you like.

When you have selected everyone, tap Next (arrow icon).

Step 4: Name Your Group

Type a name for your group. Choose something clear, like:

• “Family Chat”
• “Book Club”
• “Building Committee”
• “Weekend Plans”

You can also add a group photo by tapping the camera icon. This is optional.

Tap Create or the checkmark to finish.

Step 5: Send Your First Message

Your group is created. You will see all members listed.

Type your first message in the text box and tap Send. Everyone in the group will receive it.

Useful group features:

• Reply to a specific message: Press and hold a message, then tap Reply
• Pin important messages: Press and hold, tap Pin (useful for addresses or dates)
• Share photos and documents: Tap the + or paperclip icon
